”True Budo is practiced not only to destroy an enemy, it must also make him, or his own will, gladly lose his spirit (seishin) to oppose you” O sensei Morihei Ueshiba

The jujutsu practiced at Kaigan Kai is based in the martial art developed from Daito Ryu jujutsu by O sensei Morihei Ueshiba prior to WWII. This was the forerunner to modern day Aikido. The tradition was brought to the West by numerous Japanese Sensei and taught to our lead instructor, Aaron Nowell Renshi, 8th dan by Gary Williams Hanshi ,8th Dan. Aikijujutsu consists of joint locks, throws, atemi (striking), and grappling.

Modern Arnis is the system of Filipino fighting arts founded by Remy Presas as a self-defense system. His goal was to create an injury-free training method as well as an effective self-defense system in order to preserve the older Arnis systems. Nowell Sensei has practiced FMA for many years and now studies and teaches under the guidance of Professor Jeff Ramsey, 6th level black belt Modern Arnis. Guro Ramsey is also the USA Representative for Dagooc Arnis System and is also widely recognized as an expert in FMA.
